Everglades Ultras 50 Mile in Copeland, March 9

Date: March 09, 2019

Time: 6:00 am

Races through the Florida Everglades of 50 miles, 50 kilometers and 25 kilometers in the spectacular Fakahatchee Strand Preserve, Florida’s largest state park covering 80,000 acres.

The Fakahatchee features the largest selection of species of orchids and bromeliads in North America. Living here are Florida panther, black bear, deer, alligator, bobcat, Everglades mink, diamondback terrapin and water fowl and migratory birds too numerous to count. Its groves of native royal palms are the largest in the state and the only place in the world where bald cypress and royal palm share the forest canopy. Runners will travel along old logging “trams”–raised trails preserved and maintained for access to various sections of the park–and through big-sky grassland prairies. Fully provisioned aid stations are carefully placed throughout. The park is 90 minutes from downtown Miami and Fort Lauderdale, and 30 minutes from Naples, near Everglades City.
